Using a Numark CDX as a Vestax Controller
One thing Iman never understood, is the fact that descriptions of studio gear and music devices never provide you with full information about their potential. So most of the users, who work with these devices never get 100% out of their gear and are most of the time depending on hints and tips of others, who are using the same stuff. Of course noone would give away his secrets to a potential competitor. But there are some real useful helpers in the depths of the internet and sometimes they let you know, what one is missing out by not fully studiyng his gear.
In this video you can see how to use a Numark CDX as a musical instrument like a Vestax Controller One or PDX3000. Just put a MIDI-Keyboard or MIDI-Controller to the CDX and have fun ;-) This also works with Numark HDX. In the manual of the HDX all the MIDI functions are explained. You can also control cue points, loops, effects and so on. Some time ago a guy ask me how to do this. I can’t tell him, because I never done it. Then I bought a used CDX to check it out. The result is great. You can do so much with the CDX and I like it. I took a CD with selfmade tones for this. The beat is made with Ableton Live 8 and AKAI APC-40 MIDI-Controller. The keyboard is a Sinn7 Kommodor25. It’s crazy, you can get the CDX for some years now and nobody has done a video about the MIDI functions before. Even Numark didn’t tell about these function in their manual. hope you enjoy ;-)

hi, you can’t connect the cdx with your computer in a direct way.
I don’t know but I think there are no other special midi functions.
go to numark(dot)com and have a look at the HDX manual. there is a list with all functions. you can control for example cue points, loops, play, stop, effects and so on…..
greetings

Thanks
I think you can use any midi controller for doing this. the controller only must have a midi output. it must send the midi notes on channel 6! thats important.

Sick but shame you didn’t get your APC40 involved

Yeah! good shit steel kut. I don’t know if you remember but I’m the guy that asked you about the cdx and a midi keyboard hook up. Thanks for posting this up you helped a bunch. It’s funny because I called Numark to ask for support about this and they didn’t have a clue to how to hook up the midi keyboard to the cdx. Great video this should help so many people that have a cdx!
